On Thursday October 3rd 2013, at 10:30 am, the CLES team met with the team of the Lebanese Ministry of Education and Higher Education at the Ministry Amphitheatre to initiate Phase 2 of the project «Learning support classes”.

Representatives of the Ministry, Fadi Yarak – General Director of Education, Georges Daoud – Director of Primary Education, Sonia Khoury – Director of Pedagogic and Scholar Orientation attended the meeting, as well as the Regional Directors of Education and 50 Directors of 50 schools appointed by the Ministry for the LS project.

CLES was represented by Carmen Chahine Debbané – President, Khaled Tueni – Financial Responsible, Juliana Eid – Managing Director of the Centers, Houda Helou – Executive Assistant and George Abdelmalak – Responsible for Communication and Media.

Fadi Yarak opened the meeting with a welcome word. He reiterated the support and commitment of the Ministry for this project hoping that the total number of LS classes to open in public schools will exceed the 200 mentioned in the protocol signed between CLES and the Ministry.

After the welcoming remarks, Carmen Chahine Debbané attributed the success of the project to four essential points:
– The support of the General Director of Education,
– The fruitful collaboration between CLES and the Ministry since the foundation of CLES in 1999,
– The participation and effectiveness of the Lebanese and Belgian CLES team,
– The patronage of Raymond Debbané Foundation.

Carmen Chahine Debbané renewed her commitment to continue this project and extend it over the Lebanese territory for the sake of the Lebanese children, who well deserve it.

After showing the CLES documentary film, Juliana Eid presented the project showing its importance and impact on students with learning difficulties, as well as all students and parents and the level of public schools that are opening to modernism and progress.

After that, two public schools principals who are applying the ”Learning support Classes” project shared their experience: Melvina Efrem director of Ashrafieh mixed school and Samar Haidar director of Zkak el Blat school, who highlighted the importance of the training received by their teachers in the project framework, as well as the progress made by the monitored students in the Learning support classes. The principals also mentioned the enthusiasm and recognition of the children and parents involved in the project.

At the end, a question and answer session was followed by a cocktail.
